Director Richard Rowlands personally worked with the client two year ago and flew them to Holland to pick a tree. The brief was to supply the most magnificent tree we can get for our atrium, `no problem I know just the place`.
After cycling around the green houses debating different trees, larger, bushier, Palms, Ficus. We turned a corner and the client stopped his bike and said `wow` I want that one.
Now seeing as we started off with a 6.0m Ficus this was a 10.5m Alstonia scholaris. At least 50 years old and perfect for their atrium. A ticket was signed and the tree was reserved.
This was half the solution, the next was logistics to the UK, a designated truck was required and with the tree weighing at over 1000kg machines were needed for safe handing.
The tree arrived in
Manchester and the installation started. Tropical trees don’t like the cold so we had to move a quick as we could. A huge loadall JCB was used to literately lift the tree out of the truck into the fire exit. The size of the entrance was 135cm and the pot 130! A tight squeeze as you can imagine.
The tree was erected after 6 hours of lifting and shifting and now sits pride of place in the atrium. It is doing well as new shoots have already started backed up by Interior Plantscapes strict maintenance schedule.
In the front of house more planting to enhance the reception. Tall Polystone
planters with compacta balls and Sanserveria.
Richard however could see the potential for something magnificent in the corner. He discussed with the client and selected a 2.5m Bosai Ficus Gin Seng, planted into an ice blue 1.0m cube.
We may be biased but this is one of the most exciting planting schemes for miles around and works in perfectly with the buildings contemporary design and Breem excellent rating.
